The Project Management Institute (PMI) - a nonprofit that aims to set the best practices in project management - was founded in 1969 by Susan Gallagher, Eric Jenett, James Snyder, Gordon Davis, and Ned Engman. Headquartered in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, USA, PMI has over 600,000 members across the globe. This makes it the world’s largest association for project, portfolio, and program management professionals.

PMI members receive access to project management publications, self-learning courses, tools, templates, and networking opportunities that help them improve their project management skills.

The organization's Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is regarded as one of the best certifications a project manager can earn. The certification, which is completed online, costs $405 for PMI members, and $555 for non-members. More than 1 million project management professionals hold the PMP certification, which is ISO accredited.
